It’s easy to say you love God and Jesus. But how much do we love him? Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). So doing what he commands is the most basic way of showing that we love him. “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments; and his commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3). Even though his commandments under the new covenant are not burdensome, many baulk at doing them. Humans being the way they are, we all prefer to do things our own way.
